USDA Awards Over $635,000 in Federal Funding for Telehealth Sites in Rural North Carolina Communities

Greensboro, DC – Today, Congresswoman Kathy Manning (NC-06)celebrated the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) announcement of $635,886 in federal funding to Daymark Recovery Services, Inc. to implement telehealth sites for rural communities across North Carolina, including in Rockingham County. The project is expected to provide access to mental health and substance use disorder care to over 100,000 North Carolinians.

“Far too many North Carolinians struggle with mental health and substance use disorders but lack access to adequate care and treatment. Improving the availability of telehealth services, particularly in rural communities, will help North Carolinians get the care they need,” Congresswoman Kathy Manning (NC-06). “I’m pleased that federal funding from the USDA will help Rockingham County and communities across the state implement telehealth user sites. These sites will improve access to mental health and substance use disorder care, reduce costs and travel time for patients, and are expected to serve over 100,000 North Carolinians.”

The $635,886 in federal funding to Daymark Recovery Services will provide telehealth equipment at 18 hub/end-user sites, to be used directly by patients, and 5 hub sites, to be used organizationally by physicians, across the state. These sites are expected to enable access to health care for 102,536 patients in North Carolina.

The sites are also projected to reduce the impact on local jails and emergency rooms by treating patients before they end up in emergency facilities and reduce the number of patients who are re-admitted to the hospital.

This project is funded by the USDA’s Rural Development Distance Learning and Telemedicine Grants program.
